At the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton, a quiet but consequential act of belonging is unfolding each week this fall. Lillian George, an Indigenous hockey player from Nipissing First Nation and assistant captain of the UNB Reds, leads a free five-week camp introducing Indigenous girls to a sport that has long existed at a distance from their communities. In offering ice time, equipment, and her own visible presence as a role model, George is not simply teaching skating — she is rewriting the story of who belongs on the ice.
